Task lighting is another key component of a good interior lighting design, and we offer many solutions. For kitchens, under-cabinet lighting is one of the best upgrades you can make. It provides bright, shadow-free light directly onto your countertops, making food preparation safer and easier. We can install sleek, low-profile LED under-cabinet fixtures that are hardwired for a clean, professional look. We can also install task lighting in other areas, such as vanity lights in a bathroom, a focused track light over a desk, or picture lights to highlight your favorite artwork.

Modern lighting control is all about flexibility. We can install a variety of switching options to make your lighting as convenient as possible. This includes installing three-way or four-way switches so you can control a room’s lights from multiple entrances. We are also big proponents of dimmer switches. We can replace your standard toggle switches with modern dimmer switches for almost any light fixture. Dimmers allow you to adjust the intensity of your lighting to suit any activity, from bright light for cleaning to a soft, warm glow for relaxing in the evening. This level of control dramatically increases the versatility of your space.

Our installation process is clean, efficient, and professional. For a new lighting installation, we will carefully run any necessary new wiring through your walls and ceilings, making the smallest possible openings to minimize any repair work. We always use the correct type of electrical boxes and wiring methods to ensure the installation is safe and fully compliant with the electrical code. Our electricians treat your home with respect, using drop cloths to protect your floors and cleaning up thoroughly after our work is complete. We take pride in our craftsmanship and our customer service.

I called Gragg Electrical Services, LLC to come out regarding my dryer outlet not getting enough power. They were able to get me on the schedule the next day at no additional charge! Cory Boosz came out timely and found the issue. He kindly explained what was going on and some potential solutions. Cory did a great job fixing the problem and didn’t even have to turn the power off so I could continue working. He also cleaned up after he was finished. Thank you Cory and Gragg for providing us with kindness and relief during a difficult time. I will definitely be using this company again.

My hot tub installation required a dedicated 240 volt circuit run from the main panel out to the back deck and I wanted it done correctly and safely. Gragg Electrical handled the whole thing including the disconnect box and weatherproof cover, pulled the permit, and the inspector actually complimented the quality of the work during the walkthrough. I have heard stories about hot tub wiring done wrong and I am glad I was not one of them. Brandon and his crew take the safety side of this work seriously and it shows.

We just finished a detached garage build and needed the whole structure wired from the subpanel to the outlets and lighting. The electrician from Gragg was efficient, clearly experienced with this type of work, and the finished product looks exactly like what I had pictured. Everything is properly grounded, the circuits are sensibly distributed, and it passed the electrical inspection without a single correction. For a project I was a little nervous about managing it went about as smoothly as possible.

The lights in my living room had been flickering intermittently for months and two different electricians had looked at it without finding the cause. Gragg Electrical spent the time to actually trace the issue back to a loose neutral connection at the panel that had been creating voltage fluctuations throughout the circuit. Problem solved on the first real diagnosis. Sometimes you just need someone who is willing to look harder and these guys did exactly that.

Our kitchen renovation required running new circuits for a double oven and an island with dedicated outlet circuits and Gragg Electrical coordinated seamlessly with the rest of our contractors. The rough in work was done on schedule, the inspector had zero notes, and the finish work after drywall was clean and precise. My contractor told me they were the easiest sub on the whole job and that kind of professionalism ripples through an entire project.

We had an issue where we lost power due to the neutral wire breaking on the side of the house. I called Gragg Electric and they were able to send someone out within a few hours. We ended up needing to have not only the wire replaced, but the meter box and additional grounding installed to bring it up to current code. Everyone at Gragg Electric was very kind and professional and worked quickly to get our power restored. I would highly recommend them.

We had a recurring problem with loss of power to part of our house that was all on the same circuit. We had a subscription with another company, but when we called they couldn’t get us an appointment for several weeks. We called Gragg and they came out in 3 days. We had a technician name Cory, who was very knowledgeable and diagnosed and fixed the problem very quickly. He explained the problem in terms I could understand. Most Common Interior Lighting Installation Questions

Good lighting is one of the most impactful upgrades you can make to your home. Homeowners often have questions about the different types of lighting and what the installation process involves. Here are the answers to the most common interior lighting questions.

Recessed lighting is a popular and modern lighting style where the light fixture itself is installed up inside the ceiling, with only the trim of the light being visible from below. The main body of the fixture, or the “can” or “housing,” is hidden in the space between the ceiling joists. This creates a very clean, streamlined, and unobtrusive look that is perfect for providing general, ambient illumination in almost any room. Because the light source is recessed, it provides a broad wash of light without the visual clutter of a hanging fixture.

Recessed lights are extremely versatile. They are commonly used in kitchens to provide bright, even light across the entire workspace. They are also great for family rooms, hallways, and basements where you want good overall light without a low-hanging fixture getting in the way. They can also be used for accent lighting. Some recessed fixtures, known as “gimbals” or “eyeballs,” are adjustable and can be aimed to highlight a specific feature like a fireplace, a piece of artwork, or a bookshelf. This flexibility makes them a favorite of interior designers.

Modern recessed lighting almost exclusively uses LED technology. LED recessed lights are incredibly energy-efficient, using a fraction of the power of old incandescent bulbs. They also have an extremely long lifespan, often lasting for 20 years or more, so you will likely never have to change a bulb. They are available in a wide variety of sizes, trim styles, and color temperatures, from a warm, cozy glow to a bright, natural daylight look. Our electricians can help you design the perfect recessed lighting layout for any room in your home.

General, task, and accent lighting are the three main categories or “layers” of interior lighting design. A well-designed room will typically incorporate all three types to create a space that is both functional and visually appealing. General lighting, also known as ambient lighting, is the primary source of illumination for a room. Its purpose is to provide a comfortable level of overall brightness. Examples of general lighting include recessed can lights, a large chandelier in a dining room, or a ceiling fan with a light kit in a bedroom. It is the foundational layer of light in a space.

Task lighting is more focused light that is designed to illuminate a specific area where a task is performed. The goal of task lighting is to provide bright, direct light to prevent eye strain and improve visibility for detailed work. The most common example of task lighting is under-cabinet lighting in a kitchen, which shines directly on the countertops for food preparation. Other examples include a reading lamp next to a chair, vanity lights around a bathroom mirror, or a desk lamp in a home office. Task lighting is essential for making a space truly functional.

Accent lighting is the third layer, and it is used for dramatic effect. The purpose of accent lighting is to draw attention to a specific object or architectural feature. It is used to create visual interest and add depth and dimension to a room. Common examples of accent lighting include a track light aimed at a piece of artwork, a spotlight on a plant, or uplighting behind a piece of furniture. A good lighting design skillfully combines these three layers to create a room that is not only well-lit but also beautiful and dynamic.

Yes, absolutely. Installing dimmer switches is one of the most effective and affordable upgrades you can make to your home’s lighting system. Dimmers give you incredible control and flexibility over the ambiance of a room. A standard light switch is an all-or-nothing proposition; the light is either on at full brightness or it is off. A dimmer switch allows you to precisely adjust the light output to any level in between. This means you can have bright, clear light when you are cleaning or working, and then you can dim the lights down to a soft, warm glow when you are relaxing or entertaining guests.

This ability to control the mood of a room is the biggest benefit of a dimmer. It allows a single space, like a dining room, to transform from a bright area for homework into an intimate setting for a dinner party with the simple slide of a switch. Dimmers are also great for bedrooms, allowing you to gradually brighten the lights in the morning or dim them down before you go to sleep. They are also very popular in family rooms and home theaters for creating the perfect movie-watching environment.

In addition to ambiance control, dimmer switches can also help you save energy and extend the life of your light bulbs. When you dim a light, it consumes less electricity, which can lead to modest savings on your energy bill over time. Running a light bulb at a lower intensity also puts less stress on its filament or electronics, which can significantly increase its lifespan. Our electricians can replace almost any standard switch in your home with a modern, high-quality dimmer switch, giving you this enhanced level of control and flexibility.

Choosing the right ceiling fan involves considering both its style and its function. From a functional perspective, the most important factor is the size of the fan relative to the size of the room. A fan that is too small for a room will not be effective at circulating the air. As a general rule, for small rooms up to about 100 square feet, a fan with a blade span of 36 to 42 inches is appropriate. For medium-sized rooms up to 225 square feet, a 44 to 52-inch fan is a good choice. For large great rooms or master bedrooms, you will want a larger fan with a blade span of 52 inches or more.

You should also consider the height of your ceiling. For a standard eight-foot ceiling, a standard “hugger” or flush-mount fan that sits close to the ceiling is the best choice for safety and headroom. For higher or vaulted ceilings, you will need a fan that uses a downrod. A downrod is an extension pipe that lowers the fan down from the ceiling to a more effective height for air circulation, which is typically about eight to nine feet off the floor. Our electricians can help you select the correct length of downrod for your specific ceiling height.

From a style perspective, the choices are nearly endless. Ceiling fans are available in a vast array of finishes, from classic wood tones to modern brushed nickel or matte black. You can choose a fan with or without a light kit, depending on your room’s lighting needs. Many modern fans also come with a remote control for convenient operation of both the fan speed and the light. When you purchase a new ceiling fan, our electricians can provide professional installation, ensuring it is securely mounted to a fan-rated ceiling box and wired safely.

Yes, our licensed electricians are experienced in the safe installation of heavy chandeliers and other large, decorative light fixtures. A large chandelier can be a stunning centerpiece for a dining room, foyer, or great room, but its weight poses a significant installation challenge. A standard plastic or metal electrical box used for a simple light fixture is not designed to support the weight of a heavy chandelier, which can weigh 50 pounds or more. Attempting to hang a heavy fixture from a standard box is extremely dangerous, as the box can pull out of the ceiling, causing the expensive fixture to crash to the floor.

When we install a heavy chandelier, we must first ensure that the ceiling is properly braced to support the load. This often involves replacing the existing electrical box with a special, heavy-duty “fan-rated” box that is designed to be anchored directly to the ceiling joists. In some cases, for exceptionally heavy fixtures, we may need to add additional wood blocking between the ceiling joists to provide a secure mounting point. This structural reinforcement is the most critical part of a safe installation.

Once the mounting is secure, our electricians will carefully assemble the chandelier, which can often be a complex task with many parts. We will then lift the fixture into place and make the electrical connections. We ensure that the fixture hangs level and at the proper height for your room, which is typically about 30 to 36 inches above a dining room table. We take great care throughout this process to protect both your new fixture and your home. You can trust our team to handle your valuable chandelier with the professional skill it deserves.

Under-cabinet lighting is a form of task lighting that is installed on the underside of your upper kitchen cabinets. Its purpose is to shine bright, focused light directly down onto your countertops. This is one of the most popular and functional upgrades you can make to a kitchen. Standard overhead kitchen lighting, like a central ceiling fixture or even recessed lights, is often behind you when you are standing at the counter. This causes your own body to cast a shadow on your work surface, making it difficult to see when you are chopping vegetables or reading a recipe. Under-cabinet lighting completely eliminates this problem.

By placing the light source directly above the work surface, under-cabinet lighting provides brilliant, shadow-free illumination exactly where you need it most. This makes your kitchen safer and much more enjoyable to work in. Modern under-cabinet lighting typically uses low-profile LED fixtures or tape lights. These are very energy-efficient, have a very long life, and produce very little heat. They are available in a range of color temperatures so you can match the look of your other kitchen lights.

While there are some plug-in DIY options available, the best and cleanest looking solution is to have your under-cabinet lighting professionally hardwired. An electrician can run the necessary wiring behind the drywall and inside the cabinets for a completely hidden and seamless installation. The lights can be controlled by a convenient wall switch, often with a dimmer, so you can adjust the brightness. Hardwired under-cabinet lighting is a high-end feature that adds significant functionality and value to your kitchen.

Yes, a licensed electrician can add a new light fixture in almost any location in your home, even if there is no existing wiring or electrical box at that spot. This is a very common project, whether you want to add a ceiling light to a dark room, install a new sconce on a wall, or hang a pendant light over a kitchen island. The process involves running a new electrical cable from a power source to the new fixture location and installing a new electrical box to mount the fixture to.

The power for the new fixture can come from a few different places. In some cases, we may be able to tap into the power from a nearby switch or outlet. However, the best method is often to run a brand new circuit from your main electrical panel. This ensures that the new light will not overload any existing circuits. The electrician will also need to run a wire, called a switch leg, from the new fixture location down the wall to a convenient spot where a new light switch will be installed. This allows you to control the new fixture.

Running these new wires through finished walls and ceilings requires skill and the right tools to minimize the amount of drywall cutting and patching required. Our experienced electricians are experts at “fishing” wires through wall cavities with as little disruption as possible. We will then securely mount the new electrical box, install the new switch, and hang and connect your new light fixture. This is a project that requires professional expertise to be done safely and cleanly.

Three-way switches are a type of light switch that allows you to control a single light fixture or a group of lights from two different locations. They are extremely common and are used for convenience in areas with more than one entrance or exit. For example, in a long hallway, a staircase, or a large living room, you would typically have a three-way switch at each end. This allows you to turn the lights on when you enter the space from one end and turn them off as you leave from the other end, without having to walk back through the dark.

A three-way switch looks slightly different from a standard single-pole switch. It does not have “ON” and “OFF” markings on the toggle because its position is always relative to the other switch; up can be on or off depending on the state of the other switch. Internally, a three-way switch has three terminal screws instead of two. The wiring for a three-way switch setup is also more complex, requiring a special type of three-conductor wire to be run between the two switch locations. These extra wires are called “travelers” and they are what allow the two switches to communicate.

Our electricians can easily install new three-way switching systems for you, or we can troubleshoot and repair existing ones that are not working correctly. We can even install four-way switches. A four-way switch is a special type of switch that is inserted in the wiring between two three-way switches. This allows you to add a third control location for the same set of lights. This is useful for very large rooms with three or more entrances. We can help you design a switching layout that provides the ultimate convenience for your home.
